About the photograph
An original photograph by Alan and Carolina, made to look three-dimensional: the near and far parts of the scene move against each other as the view sways. A black and white waterfall cascading down dark, terraced rock ledges in a shadowy, fern-filled forest.
How it works
Imaging software estimates how far away every part of the original photo is, and records it as a depth map. The scene is then redrawn from slightly shifted viewpoints, so near things move against the distance just as they do when you shift your head. Edges that a nearer object hides are filled in to match.
What you receive
- The 3D video (MP4): Plays on any phone, tablet, computer or TV. It loops seamlessly: set it to repeat, or use it as a digital frame's picture or a screensaver.
- The red-cyan picture (JPG): Look at it through red/cyan 3D glasses, red over the left eye: on screen, or printed up to 24 × 18 inches (61 × 46 cm). The glasses cost a few dollars.
- 3D views (ZIP): A stereo pair, the left eye's view beside the right eye's, for VR headsets, 3D photo viewers and phone VR holders. And 12 views from left to right: send them to a lenticular printing service for a print that looks 3D with no glasses.
- The 3D model (GLB): Opens in 3D viewers and on most phones (iPhone: Files or AR viewers; Windows: 3D Viewer; or any web glTF viewer). Turn it with a finger or the mouse.
